Sept 16: In the morning we visit the Great Wall, China's most famous landmrk. During the afternoon we enjoy a visit to the Great Bell Temple. There we'll view an enormous collection of Buddhist and other bells made in antiquity, including the the great Kangle Bell, a 54 ton masterpiece which has over two hundred thousand Chinese characters of Buddhist sutras cast on its surface.
Sept 17: On this day we visit the famous Forbidden City, the palace of the Ming and Qing emperors. After lunch we enjoy the grand "Eternal Peace" temple, where Lamaism was practiced by Chinese royalty during the Qing Dynasty.
Sept 18: Leave Beijing and travel to Shijiazhuang.
En route, visit Yunju Mountain, Zhoukoudian,. Yunju Temple, built about 625 AD, is a repository for the Buddhist Canon that was carved into stone tablets to preserve the Buddhist teachings from destruction. This massive project took a total of nearly 800 years to complete. Overnight at Shijiazhuang.
Sept 19: Visit to Bailin Monastery, the largest working monastery in Northern China. It contains many important and impressive features, such as Zhaozhou's burial pagoda.
Sept 20:Day visit to Zhaozhou's bridge and Zhengding. Overnight Shijiazhuang.
Sept 21: Travel to Handan and Anyang. Anyang Historical Museum. Transfer by coach to Dengfeng City on Mt. Song.
Sept 22: Visit Shaolin Temple and Bodhidharma's cave. Afternoon visit to the Longmen Grottos, one of the three great sites of Buddhist carvings in China, now a UNESCO site. Evening stay at Peony Hotel in Luoyang City.
Sept 23: Morning visit to White Horse Temple, the legendary place where Buddhism was introduced to China. Transfer to Xian City.
Sept 24:Visit the great sights of Xian, including the Terra Cotta Warriors and Wild Goose Pagoda. Visit Old City. Transfer to Nanjing by airplane.
Sept 25: Visit historic sites in and around Nanjing City. Nanjing Massacre Memorial Museum.
Sept 26: Transfer to Shanghai Spend an afternoon at the Bund, China's famous waterfront, and see spectacular Nanjing Road.
Sept 27: Visit the world class Shanghai Museum and enjoy works of art in all mediums from China's antiquity. Old City.
Sept 28: Tour ends. Depart China.
